Senior Software Engineer - LRX Core, Connected Devices

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our LRX UI team, focused on building and evolving the user experience layer that powers Crunchyroll across Smart TVs, Game Consoles, and other connected devices.

In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize shared UI frameworks, reusable components, and frontend application patterns that enable high-quality, consistent experiences across living room platforms. You will help shape our HTML5-based client architecture, partner closely with product, design, and platform teams, and ensure our applications are performant, scalable, and reliable in constrained device environments.

This role requires strong frontend expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React, along with experience building scalable UI systems and solving performance challenges on platform-specific devices.

In the role of Senior Engineer, you will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, LRX.

Key Responsibilities:

Build and Evolve Shared UI Capabilities

Design, implement, and maintain reusable UI components, presentation-layer frameworks, and frontend libraries used across Smart TVs, Game Consoles, and other connected devices.

Improve the consistency, scalability, and maintainability of the LRX UI codebase across multiple platforms.

Drive Cross-Platform User Experience Consistency

Define and enforce frontend patterns for navigation, rendering, state handling, interaction behavior, and UI responsiveness.

Ensure a consistent and polished user experience across multiple living room platforms while accounting for device-specific limitations and behaviors.

Deliver Complex Frontend Initiatives

Own and deliver large, cross-team UI projects with multiple dependencies, balancing immediate product needs with long-term architectural improvements.

Coordinate with engineers, product managers, and project managers to deliver new features and improvements across Crunchyroll’s connected device applications.

Partner Across Functions

Collaborate closely with product, design, platform, and Quality Engineering teams to translate requirements into scalable frontend solutions.

Help unblock development, align implementation approaches, and manage dependencies across teams.

Code Quality and Technical Leadership

Lead code reviews, provide actionable feedback, and establish frontend engineering best practices that improve maintainability, testability, and reliability.

Performance and Reliability

Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks related to rendering, startup time, memory usage, and platform-specific constraints.

Testing and Engineering Excellence

Partner with Quality Engineering to improve test strategy, code coverage, and release confidence using but not limited to unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.

Mentorship and Team Growth

Mentor junior engineers, helping raise the technical bar and strengthen a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Create clear technical documentation and implementation guidance to enable adoption of shared UI systems across teams.

About You

Experience:

8+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on frontend or client-side engineering.

Frontend Expertise:

Deep experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and React, including building scalable and maintainable applications.

Strong understanding of modern frontend architecture, component design, and state management patterns.

Platform / Architecture Experience:

Proven ability to design and deliver complex systems, frameworks, or shared libraries used across multiple teams or products.

Experience making sound technical trade-offs that balance user experience, performance, and long-term maintainability.

Connected Devices (Preferred):

Experience building applications for Smart TVs, Game Consoles, or other constrained environments (or strong interest in this space).

Technical Leadership:

Demonstrated ability to lead projects, influence architectural decisions, and drive alignment across teams.

Problem Solving:

Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, especially in cross-module or platform-specific scenarios.

Collaboration:

Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing dependencies in distributed environments.

Communication:

Ability to clearly articulate technical concepts and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with streaming platforms, video playback, or media applications.

Familiarity with performance optimization in constrained environments, including memory, CPU, and startup time.

Experience working in shared codebases or monorepos.

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies.

Experience partnering with design systems or building reusable component libraries.

Familiarity with remote-control or ten-foot UI design patterns for living room applications.

The range listed is just one component of Crunchyroll’s Total Rewards offerings for employees.
