Senior Regulatory Counsel - Global Expansion
Overview
We are hiring a Senior Regulatory Counsel to help lead the legal side of Mesh’s global expansion. Working with the Chief Legal Officer and VP of Legal, you will own global regulatory strategy and market entry across LATAM, the EU, the UK, and APAC: assessing what it takes to launch in each market, shaping how our products are offered and distributed there, and driving the licensing and authorization workstreams that make it possible. You will work hand in hand with Compliance, Product, Sales, and outside counsel, and turn a complex, multi-jurisdiction picture into a clear, sequenced expansion plan. This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable operating across borders, legal systems, and time zones at startup speed.
What You'll Do
Own global regulatory strategy and market-entry planning across LATAM, the EU, the UK, and APAC, including licensing and authorization requirements, sequencing, and go/no-go recommendations.
Lead the regulatory workstreams for priority expansions: the Brazil VASP/SPSAV authorization (and any related acquisition), UK FCA registration and the FSMA authorisation regime, EU frameworks (MiCAR, EMI, and PSD2), and Singapore/MAS.
Structure global product and distribution: how features are localized, offered, and distributed in each market, and the partner, reseller, and agent structures that support them.
Partner with Compliance and regional MLROs on licensing applications, regulator engagement, and change-of-control and controller approvals.
Select, manage, and coordinate outside counsel across jurisdictions, setting scope, budget, and timelines and synthesizing their advice into decisions.
Structure and stand up local entities for new markets, including cross-border entity setup and corporate structuring.
Advise the business on market-entry risk and sequencing, translating multi-jurisdiction requirements into clear, practical guidance.
Monitor regulatory and policy developments across target markets and adjust the expansion roadmap accordingly.
Who You Are
8+ years of relevant legal experience, with significant time spent on cross-border or international financial services, payments, or crypto/digital-asset regulation
Deep knowledge of financial services, payments, and crypto regulatory regimes in key markets (LATAM, UK, EU, APAC)
Track record leading market-entry, licensing, registration, and authorization projects across multiple jurisdictions
Experience structuring and standing up entities, including cross-border entity formation and corporate structuring
Practical, risk-based judgment, with comfort operating across borders, legal systems, and time zones at startup speed
Strong cross-functional collaborator with Compliance, Product, and Sales, with the judgment to know what to decide versus escalate
JD and active membership in good standing with at least one US state bar, or an equivalent qualification in a relevant jurisdiction
