About the Team

The Office Technology team designs, deploys, and operates the network infrastructure that keeps Datadog’s global offices connected, secure, and reliable. The team owns routing, switching, wireless, office firewalls, connectivity, and the observability and operational practices needed to provide a dependable employee experience at scale.

About the Role

As a Senior Network Engineer on the Office Technology team, you will own major network services and complex multi-site initiatives from problem definition and design through implementation, migration, and stable operations. You will act as a technical anchor for the team, leading design reviews and difficult troubleshooting, improving standards and automation, and helping other engineers deliver high-quality work.

This is a senior level role that combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership. You will shape team roadmap proposals and technical decisions through evidence and clear tradeoffs, while remaining accountable for reliable delivery and day-to-day operability.

What You’ll Do

Design resilient, scalable solutions across LAN, Wi-Fi, routing, switching, and office firewalls, with explicit failure domains, capacity assumptions, security controls, and migration paths

Author RFCs and lead design reviews, clearly documenting goals, constraints, alternatives, decisions, risks, validation, rollout, and rollback

Build production readiness into network changes through meaningful service objectives, monitoring, alerting, runbooks, capacity planning, failure testing, and operational handoff

Design reusable automation for provisioning, configuration, policy, compliance, telemetry, and change validation, with appropriate testing, peer review, drift detection, staged rollout, and safe rollback

Own, alongside other senior engineers and leadership, the health and lifecycle of major network services, using data to improve reliability, coverage, performance, security, supportability, and cost

Lead difficult incidents and root-cause investigations, communicate clearly during high-impact events, and ensure follow-up work addresses systemic causes

Evaluate technology and vendor options and make pragmatic recommendations grounded in operability, security, scalability, and business impact

Partner closely with Security, IT Support, Endpoints, AV, Workplace, Construction, Infrastructure teams, and external vendors on cross-functional initiatives

Mentor other engineers, delegate effectively, improve team standards and documentation, and raise the quality of design and operational practices

Participate in operational support, incident response, and planned maintenance activities as appropriate for the team

Who You Are

A deeply experienced, hands-on network engineer with strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, wireless, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, and enterprise network security

Experienced designing and operating resilient network infrastructure across distributed offices or campus environments

Skilled at diagnosing complex issues using packet captures, logs, flow data, dashboards, and vendor telemetry, and at reasoning from protocols and failure modes

Comfortable building maintainable automation using scripting, APIs, infrastructure-as-code, version control, testing, and CI/CD practices

Strong in production engineering practices, including observability, service objectives, capacity planning, change safety, incident response, and post-incident improvement

Able to take ambiguous problems from problem statement to durable solution, balancing reliability, security, user experience, cost, and delivery speed

A clear, concise communicator who can lead technical discussions, explain tradeoffs, and build alignment with technical and non-technical partners

A thoughtful mentor who raises the quality of others’ work without becoming a bottleneck or creating unnecessary process

Responsible in your use of AI-assisted engineering tools: you protect sensitive data, validate outputs, and know when deterministic automation is the safer choice

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Bonus Points

Experience with Datadog or other observability platforms, including network device monitoring, flow analytics, synthetic testing, and service-level reporting

Experience with Python, Ansible, Terraform, Git-based workflows, or network automation frameworks

Experience with network access control, RADIUS or 802.1X, segmentation, VPNs, or identity-aware and zero-trust networking

Experience delivering global office expansions, infrastructure refreshes, or complex migrations in a rapidly scaling organization
