We are seeking a Contractor for the position of Senior Laboratory Automation and Informatics Engineer.to help our clients design, implement, and support automated laboratory systems in GxP-regulated environments. In this role, you’ll work with integrated instrumentation, robotics, informatics, and control system solutions across biopharmaceutical, cell and gene therapy, clinical diagnostic, analytical, and discovery labs. As a senior member of the team, you’ll lead projects with independence, shape the Automation & Informatics technical approach, and support the growth of junior engineers through mentorship.

This role connects lab automation with enterprise systems through LIMS/ELN integration, data pipelines, API/middleware solutions, and digital lab orchestration to support compliant data flow.

10-20% travel associated with this role.

You will:

Design, deploy, and support automated lab systems for pharma and life sciences clients in GxP environments

Lead projects independently, guide Automation & Informatics technical direction, and mentor junior engineers

Translate lab workflows and assay needs into specifications, roadmaps, architectures, and platform strategies

Create URS, FRS, SDS, IQ/OQ/PQ, and other documentation aligned with GAMP5 and 21 CFR Part 11

Build, test, deploy, commission, troubleshoot, and train users on lab automation systems

Integrate LIMS and ELN platforms (e.g., SampleManager, LabWare, STARLIMS, LabVantage, Benchling), including sample/result data flow and structured data capture

Engineer data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and compliant, validated data traceability

Architect APIs, middleware, and SQL databases for audit-trail, time-series, and compliance data models

Configure workflow orchestration platforms (e.g., SiLA 2, Benchling Workflows, Tetrascience) and lead digital lab modernization, AI-ready infrastructure, and autonomous lab enablement

Coordinate across instrumentation, informatics, and controls teams while serving as the technical contact for life sciences stakeholders

You have:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Information Systems, or equivalent technical experience; advanced degree preferred

Experience with laboratory informatics, data integration, or digital lab systems

Knowledge of pharmaceutical informatics architectures and applying ALCOA+ data integrity principles to automated data flows

Experience with FDA-regulated software development and validation, including GAMP5 Category 3–5 classification

Familiarity with GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11, cGMP, and CSV/CSA requirements

Working knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443 cybersecurity practices for laboratory automation

Experience with software development practices such as Git version control, code review, and release management

A DNA comprised of collaboration and teamwork.

You may have:

Experience integrating OSI PI / AVEVA PI and designing Asset Framework hierarchies

Cloud architecture experience for laboratory data in AWS or Azure, including data lakes, compute, identity, and cost layers

Experience integrating Chromatography Data Systems, such as Waters Empower or Thermo Chromeleon

Experience orchestrating agentic AI for lab workflows, including audit trails, approvals, and defined decision boundaries

Familiarity with Digital Lab or Lab of the Future frameworks and connected lab ecosystems spanning instruments, robotics, and enterprise systems
