Senior Designer - Temporary
About the Role
Monks is seeking a seasoned Senior Designer to join an embedded creative team producing rapid-turn editorial, digital, and marketing content. Operating on-site alongside senior client stakeholders, this role is built for a design-first craftsperson with high autonomy, executive presence, and an end-to-end maker mindset.
Your foundation is elite visual and digital design: typography, layout, systems, and storytelling. From that base, you lean naturally into multidisciplinary execution - comfortable integrating simple motion graphics, basic video editing, and AI-assisted production workflows to push an asset across the finish line rather than handing off intermediate steps. You bring the creative maturity to hold the room with stakeholders, make decisive creative calls under tight deadlines, and navigate changing requirements while upholding an uncompromising standard of craft within established brand systems.
Employment Type, Duration & Work Location
This is a temporary, full-time position expected to run through March 31, 2027.
This role requires working onsite at our client's office in Menlo Park, CA, 4–5 days per week.
In This Role, You Will
Anchor Visual Craft & Brand Systems: Drive the creative execution of high-profile editorial, marketing, and web deliverables, applying and thoughtfully evolving established brand guidelines, component systems, and templates.
Deliver Assets End-to-End: Own deliverables from brief through final export; lead with static design while fluidly incorporating motion snippets, UI animation, and video assembly to produce complete, turnkey assets.
Lead Stakeholder Interactions: Act as a strategic creative partner to client leads - presenting work directly, articulating design rationale, resolving ambiguity in real time, and guiding projects forward without daily supervision.
Leverage AI as a Production Multiplier: Integrate approved generative AI models and prompt workflows into your daily pipeline to accelerate ideation, unblock technical constraints, and expand creative throughput.
Visualize Complex Information: Distill technical concepts, product architecture, and data into intuitive infographics, diagrams, charts, and interactive layouts.
Apply Advanced Systems & UX Principles: Design responsive, accessible digital layouts in Figma, leveraging shared libraries, tokens, variables, and reusable component architectures.
Uphold Rigorous Self-QA: Maintain strict quality control over your own files, reviewing typography, alignment, responsiveness, animation timing, and technical specifications prior to stakeholder delivery.
Navigate Dynamic Priorities: Adapt quickly to shifting brief requirements, delivering high-velocity revisions while preserving design system integrity and aesthetic polish.
Ensure Discretion: Handle confidential, unreleased product information and strategic client IP with absolute discretion.
Experience You Bring
6–8+ years of design experience across digital, visual, web, or brand design within an agency, technology organization, or high-velocity in-house creative team.
Designer-First Craft Mastery: Exceptional visual judgment and taste, with deep expertise in layout hierarchy, typography, composition, color theory, and art direction.
Multidisciplinary Execution: Practical use of After Effects and basic video post-production, with the ability to animate UI elements, craft social cuts, and deliver video-integrated assets.
AI-Native Workflow Familiarity: Hands-on experience integrating modern generative AI tools and model workflows into production pipelines to streamline creative execution.
Stakeholder Maturity & Autonomy: Strong executive presence and communication skills, with a track record of defending creative decisions, and building trust independently.
Advanced Figma & System Fluency: Mastery of Figma’s advanced toolset - including components, variants, auto layout, variables, and cross-platform design systems.
Information Architecture & Storytelling: Proven ability to translate abstract or highly technical concepts into clear, engaging diagrams and visual narratives.
Resilience in Rapid-Turn Environments: Proven capability to handle fast turnarounds, pivot on the fly, and maintain high standards of finish under changing parameters.
Communication & Collaboration: Professional fluency in written and spoken English, paired with clear, proactive cross-functional communication.
Working Model
This is an in-person, client-facing role embedded directly with the client team in Menlo Park, CA. You will work alongside on-site partners while coordinating with distributed creative teams across locations and time zones, maintaining core client working hours and flexibility around urgent project milestones.
