Senior Cost Accountant
Compensation: $80k+
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing and reporting manufacturing costs, inventory, product margins, and financial performance. This role partners with operations, purchasing, supply chain, and finance teams to improve cost controls, maintain accurate financial records, and support business decisions
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform monthly closing activities related to inventory, manufacturing costs, and cost of goods sold.
Analyze product costs, labor, overhead, material variances, and manufacturing expenses.
Maintain and review standard costs and update cost models as needed.
Prepare and analyze inventory valuations, reserves, and reconciliations.
Investigate purchase price, production, labor, and overhead variances.
Prepare monthly cost and variance reports for management.
Support sales with cost card analysis for RFQs.
Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
Assist with physical inventory counts and inventory audits.
Develop and maintain cost accounting procedures and internal controls.
Partner with manufacturing and operations teams to identify cost-saving opportunities.
Assist with financial and external audits.
Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
Identify process improvements and automate or streamline reporting where possible
Experience, Skills, Education and Abilities Required for Consideration as a Candidate:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
4–7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or cost accounting environment.
Strong understanding of inventory accounting and standard costing.
Experience with D365 is a plus.
Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookups, and financial analysis.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication skills with both finance and operational teams.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet month-end deadlines.
CPA, CMA, or other professional certification is often preferred but not required.
