About Role:
The Senior Cloud Engineer leads the design, implementation, and operations of the organization’s cloud infrastructure. This role is responsible for complex projects, high-level architectural planning, and making strategic technology decisions that support scalability, performance, security, and cost optimization. Acting as a technical leader, the Senior Cloud Engineer provides mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers while driving innovation, resiliency, and compliance in cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Implementation
Lead the design and implementation of cloud-native architectures and hybrid cloud solutions.
Oversee cloud engineering projects, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, and cost-effective.
Contribute to high-level architectural planning and strategic decision-making around technology adoption.
Review and approve design proposals, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates, and automation workflows.
Identify risks in design and implementation plans and develop mitigation strategies.
Management and Maintenance
Oversee the management of cloud resources across multiple platforms and environments.
Lead performance tuning, scaling strategies, and cost optimization efforts.
Make strategic decisions regarding upgrades, cloud service adoption, and configuration changes.
Ensure adherence to operational standards, SLAs, and governance policies.
Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution
Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex, high-impact issues across cloud platforms.
Oversee incident response and problem resolution by guiding junior and mid-level engineers.
Develop and implement proactive strategies to reduce recurring issues and increase platform reliability.
Serve as the final escalation point for cloud-related technical problems.
Security and Compliance
Lead cloud security initiatives, including IAM strategy, data encryption, logging, monitoring, and incident response.
Oversee vulnerability management and implement security automation in cloud environments.
Ensure compliance with industry frameworks such as SOC 2, PCI, HIPAA, ISO 27001, or NIST.
Develop strategies to improve security posture and enforce governance across multi-cloud and hybrid environments.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning
Lead cloud disaster recovery and continuity planning efforts across critical workloads.
Conduct advanced risk assessments, failover testing, and recovery exercises.
Make strategic decisions about resilience design, including multi-region, high availability, and backup solutions.
Drive improvements to disaster recovery strategies to align with evolving business needs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of experience in cloud engineering or IT infrastructure, with increasing technical leadership responsibilities.
Deep expertise with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP) and familiarity with multi-cloud environments.
Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and automation tools (e.g., GitHub/GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines).
Advanced knowledge of networking, container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS/ECS), and operating systems.
Hands-on experience with VMware virtualization (vSphere/ESXi) including vSAN-based hyperconverged storage design, deployment, and operations.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Hyper-V failover clustering using Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) for hyperconverged infrastructure.
Proven experience with cloud security best practices and compliance frameworks.
Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, and project management skills.
