Senior Accountant
Overview
ID.me is looking for a Senior Accountant to own the accounting for our largest expense category: our people. This role owns payroll, bonus, commission, benefits, insurance, and severance accounting — from journal entries and accruals through reconciliation, variance analysis, and audit support. This role also assists in the review of day-to-day accounts payable, T&E, and corporate card activity.
This is a hands-on role with real ownership: you'll be the person Finance, HR/People, and FP&A come to when they need to understand what people cost and why the number moved. It's ideal for someone who enjoys diving into transactional detail, tightening processes, and jumping into ad-hoc analytics when the business needs answers fast.
ID.me is America's leading identity verification solution, with over 111 million members and growing. We're building a top-notch Finance team to support that growth — if you're detail-driven, analytical, and looking for a fast-paced, pre-IPO company with real upward mobility, this could be a great fit.

Partner with Payroll to record each payroll cycle, tying the payroll register to the general ledger and reconciling wages, employer taxes, and withholdings; own payroll tax accruals and liability reconciliations, coordinating with Payroll and Tax on multi-state filings and variances
Prepare and maintain accruals for annual and performance bonuses, spot bonuses, referral and sign-on bonuses, and compensated absences (PTO), including true-ups and reversals as awards are paid, forfeited, or re-forecast
Own the commission accounting cycle: accruals, capitalization and amortization of incremental contract costs under ASC 340-40, clawbacks and reversals, and reconciliation to commission plan calculations
Account for severance and other termination benefits, including recognition criteria and accrual timing, and track payouts through final settlement
Own benefits and insurance accounting, including self-insured medical claims and IBNR accruals, stop-loss premiums and recoveries, 401(k) employer match accrual and funding reconciliation, HSA/FSA, COBRA, and workers' compensation

Partner with HR/People and FP&A on compensation and headcount variance analysis, including labor cost by department, labor allocation across functions, and capitalization of internal-use software labor
Review vendor onboarding and daily accounts payable transactions — vendor invoices, T&E, and corporate card activity — as a back-up

Conduct ad-hoc financial and operational analytics to support business decisions and process improvements
Leverage AI tools and agentic/LLM-based solutions to automate recurring people-cost workflows and improve decision quality
Support payroll and HRIS implementations and integrations to the ERP, including data validation, parallel testing, and cutover

Act as liaison with external auditors for all people-related costs and employee expenses
