Echodyne is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer, Accessories to join our fast-growing team.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Accessory Ecosystem is critical to deploying, integrating, and operating Echodyne’s advanced radar products. Echodyne is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Analog/Mixed-Signal (AMS) Engineering team and lead the electrical architecture, development, and lifecycle support of our accessory portfolio.

In this role, you will translate product and system needs into reliable, manufacturable electrical solutions spanning power distribution, communications and networking, embedded computing, interconnects, junction boxes, electrical protection, and related integration hardware. Working with cross-functional teams and external partners, you will lead these solutions across the product lifecycle, from concept and architecture through qualification, production release, and sustaining support, using the appropriate combination of internal development, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products, supplier-manufactured hardware, vendor co-development, and external design services. The ideal candidate combines broad, hands-on electrical design expertise with Principal-level technical judgment and the ability to align technical decisions across functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Own the electrical architecture, derived requirements, and interfaces for assigned accessory products and programs, ensuring compatibility among Echodyne radars, accessories, external equipment, power sources, computing platforms, and communications systems.

Define and drive electrical solutions from concept through detailed design, including technical approaches, trade studies, estimates, dependencies, risks, and decisions. Balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, quality, and schedule.

Lead the technical execution of COTS, build-to-print, vendor co-development, and design-to-spec solutions. Define specifications, interfaces, acceptance criteria, and deliverables; evaluate products and vendor capabilities; review external designs and test evidence; and maintain Echodyne’s technical ownership of the electrical solution.

Lead electrical integration, verification, qualification, and release readiness in partnership with the appropriate functional owners, including electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC), electrical safety, reliability, environmental performance, interface verification, and controlled design documentation.

Support new product introduction (NPI), production, product revisions, and sustaining changes by resolving electrical, integration, manufacturing, quality, and field issues with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Provide Principal-level technical leadership for accessory electrical development and lifecycle support. Lead major technical reviews, guide key design decisions, mentor engineers, and advance reusable architectures, standards, and development practices.

REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

Experience defining electrical architecture, derived requirements, and interfaces for complex electronic or electromechanical products, including leading trade studies and balancing size, weight, and power (SWaP), performance, reliability, and cost

Knowledge of power conversion and distribution, wired communications and networking, embedded computing platforms, connectors, cables and harnesses, grounding and bonding, electrical protection, and related integration hardware

Ability to analyze and mitigate electrical design and integration risks involving wire sizing, voltage drop, shielding, crosstalk, EMI/EMC performance, thermal effects, connector selection, and system topology

Experience technically leading COTS evaluation, build-to-print, vendor co-development, and design-to-spec or design-house development, including specifications, design reviews, and technical acceptance

Experience leading electrical integration, verification, and qualification, including EMI/EMC, electrical safety, reliability, environmental performance, and interface verification

Experience taking electrical hardware through production release and NPI, including design for manufacturability, assembly, and test (DFM/DFA/DFT), engineering changes, controlled documentation, and configuration management

Ability to operate from broad direction, resolve complex cross-disciplinary technical problems, manage technical risks and competing priorities, and influence cross-functional teams and external partners

DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

(Looking for one or more as a complement to the core skills)

Experience developing electrical hardware for radar, aerospace, defense, autonomous systems, or other high-reliability products

Experience applying relevant electrical safety, EMI/EMC, environmental, interconnect, and high-reliability product standards

Experience with Arena or a similar product lifecycle management (PLM) system

QUALIFICATIONS

BS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field and at least 15 years of relevant electrical hardware development experience, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience

Eligibility to handle export-controlled technical data, including International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR)-controlled information

Echodyne’s technology is export controlled by the U.S. Government and we must evaluate an applicant’s eligibility to handle export-controlled information or obtain required Government authorizations.  Therefore, we will ask you as part of the application process to identify whether you are a U.S. Citizen or green card holder, or have asylum/refugee status in the U.S.
