Lead Digital Hardware Engineer
Digital Hardware Engineer
About the Team:
The STR Sensors Division specializes in the development of advanced sensor systems, with a particular focus on airborne and surface-based radar, space-based sensing, electronic warfare, and underwater acoustics. This position is within the Space Missions and Sensing (SMS) Sector of the Sensors Division.
STR’s Space Missions and Sensing (SMS) Sector’s mission is to develop and apply innovative technology to space-based sensing, space control, and counter-sensing. Within the SMS Sector, the Space and Counter Space (SCS) team is at the forefront in electronic warfare technologies. Our team strives to bring critical and transformational capabilities to the warfighter through creative ideas and techniques. To realize the value, the team develops both engineering and operational prototypes to demonstrate capabilities in real world environments.
We take pride in our ability to address warfighter operational needs. Our core team includes principal investigators, program managers, signal processors, SW developers, FPGA expertise, RF and Electromagnetic engineers, and mechanical design experts. Our facilities support on site build and test (benchtop, anechoic chamber, and over the air). We collaborate with a dynamic group of research engineers across STR, academic researchers, and industry partners to develop practical and effective solutions to RF sensing and counter-sensing challenges.
Driven by our strong performance the work is expanding. We are seeking individuals with program management experience and interest in being part of a system of systems work program encompassing both new capabilities and operational prototype systems. If you're seeking an opportunity to apply your program management skills while contributing to a work program strategic vision, we invite you to join us.
The Role:
The SMS Sector is seeking a Digital Hardware Engineer. This role will be supporting engineering development, integration, and demonstration efforts for complex electronic systems. Candidate will collaborate with a dynamic engineering development team leading system and subsystem prototype efforts for complex digital circuit cards and modules. The successful candidate must have strong technical aptitude, communication skills and ability to work well across the engineering team.
to lead small teams to design, develop, integrate and test novel sensing and counter sensing systems for radar, electronic warfare, and signal processing systems. This position offers significant opportunities for career growth within a fast-paced and rapidly expanding company.
What you will do:
Design of complex high speed digital circuit card assemblies across a range of platforms and form factors, including custom boards, test boards, evaluation-kit integration, and COTS system-on-modules (SoMs) integrated into custom carrier boards.
Lead and work with small, multi-disciplinary teams to design, build, and test hardware systems. Systems are predominantly field deployable prototypes with the objective of transitioning to low-volume product systems.
Lead the team to quantify goals, system performance objectives, metrics, dependencies, and risks to guide your work.
Support test and troubleshooting of systems, modules, and sub-assemblies of digital modules.
Perform signal-integrity, power-integrity, and timing analysis, and define stackups and design constraints to meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
Generate and review test procedures, drawings, engineering specifications, reports, and other documentation.
Conduct digital system performance trade studies and analyses of proposed architectures to develop, derive, and verify requirements. Conduct performance analysis through simulations and real-world testing to validate system performance.
Interface with government sponsors and suppliers as necessary.
Mentor peers and more junior engineers in areas of expertise.
Who you are:
This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is required by U.S. Government. Active Secret Clearance HIGHLY PREFERRED.
BS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline
PhD + 2 years, MS + 5 years, or BS + 7 years of experience in digital circuit card design assemblies and working with design, build, integration and test of complex electronic systems.
Experience defining digital interfaces, clocking schemes, and system architecture for hardware built around microcontrollers, FPGAs/SoCs, and data-converter ICs.
Experience with high-speed digital interfaces (e.g., PCIe, SerDes, Ethernet, DDR) and with signal-integrity analysis.
Experience working with CAD based schematic capture and simulation tools such as Altium Designer.
Familiarity collaborating on RF systems and subsystems.
Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python and/or other higher-level languages
Strong Mathematical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills
Even Better:
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline
Excellent problem-solving skills, judgement, and analytical capability
Motivated self-starter with leaderships kills and ability to effectively work in a team environment
Ability to apply novel, innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to challenging engineering problems
Ability to create and present briefings to customers and senior management to provide both high-level and deep technical solution explanations
Join us and be part of a team that's making an impact at the forefront of technology and innovation.
