The Information Security Platform Engineer designs, builds, and supports custom applications, APIs, and automations that form the data backbone of KnowBe4’s security operations. Operating primarily within AWS, this mid-level role focuses on creating internal security tooling, streamlining developer experience (DevEx), and managing automated workflows.
Responsibilities:
Custom Security Tooling & Application Development: Design, deploy, and maintain custom applications, APIs, CLI tools, and automations using Python and modern AI-assisted development tools.
Security Operations Data Backbone: Build and manage data ingestion pipelines to process logs, alerts, and security events into operational platforms and our Elastic SIEM.
Cloud Infrastructure & IaC: Provision, manage, and scale cloud environments primarily in AWS using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
Developer Experience (DevEx) & Scaffolding: Construct reusable project scaffolding, CLI utilities, and standardized templates to enhance developer efficiency across the InfoSec team.
Secure SDLC & CI/CD Management: Manage the InfoSec codebase, build continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and embed secure software development lifecycle practices.
Requirements:
Experience with software development, scripting, or platform engineering experience.
Cloud & Infrastructure as Code: Strong hands-on experience developing in AWS and managing cloud infrastructure using Terraform (or equivalent IaC frameworks like CloudFormation)
Programming & Automation: Proficiency writing code in Python, Bash, or modern languages such as Golang or Rust
DevOps & Development Stack: Fluent with Git version control, CI/CD workflows, Docker containerization, and automated testing frameworks (e.g., pytest)
AI Integration & Development Space: Ability to navigate Mac and Linux development environments effectively and leverage AI tools pragmatically to accelerate software engineering workflows
Communication & Cultural Fit: Strong technical English communication skills (written and spoken), a narrative storytelling ability when walking through technical projects, and a collaborative, approachable mindset
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Proven track record of building internal CLI tools, project scaffolding, or open-source software solutions.
General awareness of security baseline principles, secure coding, and secure SDLC concepts.
Experience with AWS serverless stacks, microservices, or container orchestration systems like Kubernetes.
Relevant security or cloud industry certifications, or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
