Industrial Security Specialist / Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO)
About the role
Muon Space seeks a Industrial Security Specialist / Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) to join our Security team, reporting to the Senior Security Manager. The ideal candidate is a hands-on individual contributor who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and brings deep technical expertise across the full spectrum of industrial security disciplines. This person will execute day-to-day security operations in support of DoD and IC programs, serve as a subject matter expert for personnel, physical, and program security, and partner closely with program teams to ensure compliance with 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM) and applicable Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs). This person will play a key role in maintaining our facility clearance, protecting classified programs, and enabling Muon's mission to deliver Earth Intelligence for a safer, more resilient world.
This position is fully onsite and requires working in our Mountain View, CA office five days a week.
Responsibilities
Execute day-to-day Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) duties in support of our DoD Facility Clearance, including personnel security actions, visit requests, and interfacing with DCSA and USG customers.
Administer the personnel security program — process clearance actions in DISS, conduct initial and refresher security briefings/debriefings, and maintain accurate personnel security records.
Support Program Protection activities, including implementation of security requirements for secure payload processing, operations facilities, and program infrastructure.
Contribute to the Insider Threat Program, including monitoring, reporting, and supporting investigations under the direction of the Insider Threat Program Senior Official.
Deliver the security education and training program, including initial indoctrinations, annual refreshers, foreign travel briefings, and topic-specific training (OPSEC, CI awareness, derivative classification, etc.).
Draft, maintain, and enforce Standard Practice Procedures (SPPs), Emergency Action Plans, and program-specific security guidance covering classified information, CUI, and proprietary materials.
Review and track DD-254s for classified contracts and subcontracts, ensuring flow-down requirements are correctly implemented and maintained.
Support the self-inspection program and prepare for DCSA security reviews and assessments.
Operate and maintain the facility badging system, physical access controls, alarm systems, and visitor management processes.
Support COMSEC accountability and safeguarding activities as needed, in coordination with the designated COMSEC custodian.
Qualifications
Active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI required.
Bachelor's degree, or 4+ years of direct industrial security experience in lieu of a degree.
3+ years of security-related experience supporting DoD and/or IC programs, with working knowledge of NISPOM (32 CFR Part 117), ISLs, ICDs, and OPSEC principles.
Hands-on experience with DISS and NISS; familiarity with Central Office of Record processes and classification management.
Demonstrated experience across the core industrial security functions (PHYSEC, PERSEC, OPSEC, Counterintelligence, Insider Threat, and Program Security), including supporting Collateral, SCI, and/or Special Access Program (SAP) security requirements.
FSO certification (or ability to complete FSO curriculum within 90 days of hire).
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex security requirements for technical and non-technical audiences; proficient with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and thrive in a fast-paced team environment where new challenges arise each week.
Nice-to-have Skills
Industrial Security Professional (ISP) certification.
Experience supporting the planning or construction of an ICD 705-compliant SCIF / DCSA Form 147.
COMSEC experience and COMSEC custodian certification.
Participation in industry security organizations (NCMS, NDIA, ASIS, InfraGard, INSA, etc.).
Excitement to work in the Space Community and with government customers at all levels of security classification.
Salary
The salary range for this role is $130,000 - $143,000, plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
