Harness Design Intern (Summer 2027)
About the role
Muon seeks a Harness Design Intern to join our electrical engineering team. The ideal candidate is someone who has gained familiarity with harnessing through student clubs or internships and has some programming background. The goal is to advance your harness design skills during the internship and then use those skills to build really cool tools. Is there a way we can build an AI agent to review our harness drawings and make sure we don’t make basic errors? Is there a way we can create a harnessing agent to interact with the API of our programs and design harnesses? These are the types of questions we want you to answer during your internship!
Responsibilities
Work on new tooling and improve the workflows associated with harness design
Experiment with AI to update and modify drawings
Create harness drawings, BOMs and maintain system diagrams
Specify connector and crimp part numbers in accordance with system design
Gather feedback from AIT, EE and Mechanical for initial designs and improvements
Work with electrical engineering to ensure compliance with signal integrity, grounding, and shielding requirements
Release documentation into PLM with ECO/DCO
Define electrical test criteria (e.g., continuity, insulation resistance, hipot) for flight and test harnesses. Support or oversee test execution and documentation
Qualifications
Attention to detail, strong reading comprehension and a desire for ownership
Familiarity with creating harness drawings in any software
Ability to use the linux terminal, basic git tools, LLMs with MCPs, python programming
Ability to build harnesses from scratch - not required daily but helps inform strip lengths, crimper positioners and settings, splicing techniques, heatshrink selection, torque values etc.
Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges each week
Nice-to-have Skills
Previous internship or co-op experience
Previous experience on student teams (i.e. Rocketry club, formula SAE, solar car, etc.)
Experience designing harnesses with high reliability requirements
Experience with RF cable build and characterization
Experience building agents and using AI to complete engineering tasks
Pay range
Bachelor's $40/hour
Master's $45/hour
PhD $50/hour
