Location: Remote (US)

Role Type: Full-Time Contractor (40 hours/week)

Duration: 9-month contract

Reports To: Sr. Manager, Development Operations

Compensation: $7,000–9,200 per month

This is not a traditional nonprofit grant writing role.

CodePath's Philanthropy Partnerships team raises the capital behind our courses, our career support, and our students' outcomes. The Grant Writer is how that case gets made. You write for national foundations and corporate partners deciding where their social impact dollars go, and you translate program data, student outcomes, and organizational strategy into the proposals and reports that win major commitments and steward them.

The second half of the job makes the first half repeatable. You partner with Finance, Delivery, Higher Education, and Data to stay ahead of fast-moving program updates and impact metrics, then turn what you learn into reusable assets, writing frameworks, and AI-enabled workflows the whole team draws on.

CodePath is an AI-native organization, and we expect this role to work like one. Writing faster with AI is table stakes. We want someone who builds the systems that raise everyone's output — so the team spends its time on strategy and judgment instead of rebuilding the same narrative from scratch.

CodePath is scaling fast. This is the role that lets our fundraising capacity scale with it.

Key Activities

Proposal development (~20%)

Lead or support major grant proposals, concepts, and letters of inquiry from prospecting through submission, meeting every funder guideline and submission requirement

Translate CodePath's mission, programs, and impact into compelling, consistent narratives the whole team can use

Research, synthesize, and translate program data into funder-facing briefs, proposals, and supporting materials

Build the frameworks and narratives that equip account owners to lead complex, high-value opportunities

Grant reporting and compliance (~10%)

Serve as lead or supporting writer on major funder reports

Equip account owners with the narratives, data, and frameworks they need to lead complex funder reports and steward high-value relationships

Proactively manage funder portal accounts, submission calendars, and organizational credentials

Keep internal grant management systems (e.g., Asana) current

Asset development and maintenance (~20%)

Build and maintain a shared library of reusable narrative assets — program descriptions, boilerplate language, proof points — that accelerates every proposal the team writes

Support fundraisers with ad-hoc narrative development

Cross-functional collaboration (~20%)

In partnership with the Sr. Manager of Development Operations, collaborate with other departments (e.g., Finance, Delivery, Higher Education, and Data) to collect and translate data, program updates, and student stories into funder-facing narratives

Supply narrative inputs, source content, program context, data, and proof points for donor-facing assets alongside fundraisers and the rest of the Philanthropy Partnerships team

Writing enablement and team optimization (~30%)

Use AI tools to improve how proposals, reports, and assets get built

Track fast-moving organizational developments and impact metrics to keep fundraising materials current and accurate

Develop and maintain proposal templates, writing frameworks, reusable assets, and funder-specific approaches that let account owners lead complex proposals and reports themselves

Document writing patterns and organizational knowledge to improve AI-assisted drafting and automate routine work, while holding quality, accuracy, and a consistent CodePath voice

Key Success Metrics

At 30 days

You understand CodePath's mission, program model, core narratives, impact data, and active funder portfolio

You know the team's proposal and reporting workflows, writing standards, and priorities

You have met the cross-functional teams and know where the information you need lives

At 60 days

You have contributed to active proposals or reports, turning existing CodePath information into clear, accurate funder-facing writing

You manage your assigned deliverables and deadlines, including funder requirements

You have added new or updated materials to the shared asset library

You have working relationships with key Finance, Delivery, Higher Education, and Data counterparts

At 90 days

You write proposals and reports that come back with strategic refinements, not substantive rewrites

You run assigned deliverables independently from information gathering through submission

You navigate cross-functional relationships efficiently to get what you need

The shared library is stronger — easier for the team to find, adapt, and keep current

You have shipped at least two repeatable or AI-enabled workflows that cut manual effort or free the team for higher-value work

Account owners are leading their own proposals and reports on complex opportunities, using frameworks and synthesis you built

You are a trusted writing partner to the Philanthropy Partnerships team

Qualifications

Required

5–7 years writing for institutional and corporate funders — proposals, letters of inquiry, and funder reports. Long-form, funder-facing, and written by you.

You build with AI, you don't just write with it. You have documented recurring work, streamlined it with AI tools, and handed the result to other people. Using Claude or ChatGPT to polish a draft is not what we mean.

You do your own data synthesis. You go to the data and finance teams, ask the right questions, and turn what you get back into accurate narrative — without waiting for someone to hand you a summary.

You collaborate across functions and come in curious. You want to understand the programs and the strategy, not just the ask.

You work at pace. Concurrent deadlines, shifting priorities, and information that changes under you.

Exceptional writing and editing, with attention to detail while maintaining a strategic perspective.

Preferred

Experience in education, workforce development, or youth-serving nonprofits

Experience in a social impact, tech, or tech-adjacent environment

CRM management, HubSpot preferred

Asana or similar project management platforms

Comfort building simple visual assets (e.g., Canva)

Pay range

$7,000—$9,200 USD
