Forward Deployed Engineer - Strategic Search Accounts
About the Role:
The Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is Bloomreach's embedded technical partner inside our largest, most complex Search accounts. This is not an implementation-support role — it's a strategic technical ownership role. The FDE gets deep enough into a customer's broader commerce stack (not just the Bloomreach integration surface) to understand how Search decisions ripple through their catalog, data pipeline, merchandising operations, and site architecture.
The FDE is expected to act as a trusted advisor, proactively identifying risk, recommending the technically and commercially sound path, and pushing back, clearly and constructively, when a customer's preferred approach will hurt their outcomes, scalability, or long-term platform health. Success in this role is measured by the strength of the technical relationship and the quality of the account's architecture, not just successful go-lives.
Core Responsibilities:
-Deep Technical Integration & Architecture Ownership
Own the technical relationship for a portfolio of Bloomreach's largest Search customers, building a working knowledge of their full commerce stack — catalog systems, data pipelines, personalization/analytics tools, and site architecture — not just the Bloomreach integration points.
Partner with Product and Engineering to translate our customers’ business requirements into a plan, and own that plan through execution. Sometimes this involves building on top of the product in ways most customers aren’t.
Architect and advise on Feed, Pixel, and API implementations as part of a broader point of view on how the customer's data and systems should work together — not as isolated checklist items.
Guide customers on merchandising rule strategy in the Bloomreach dashboard, grounded in their business goals and site performance, not just feature capability.
Evaluate and stand behind implementation approaches for features not yet generally released, in partnership with the Solution Architect and Product, including testing and go-live readiness.
-Strategic Advisory
Proactively surface risks, technical debt, and anti-patterns in a customer's implementation — even when that means challenging a customer's preferred approach or timeline.
Proactively ensure technical readiness of all upcoming Product releases and advise customers on how to best implement.
Advise customers on trade-offs with the same rigor as an internal architecture review: short-term convenience vs. long-term maintainability, one-off customization vs. platform-supported patterns.
Serve as the credible technical voice in escalations and executive conversations, able to explain not just what Bloomreach recommends but why, and to hold that position under pressure.
Know when to escalate internally (Product, Engineering, Leadership) versus when to hold the line directly with the customer.
Run the Go-Live QA to validate that every integrated feature is technically sound and aligned to the agreed architecture, not just functionally present.
Own the technical experience of go-live end-to-end, in lockstep with the Strategic Customer Consultant
-Cross-Functional & Product Influence
Act as the voice of Bloomreach's largest Search accounts inside the company: identify systemic implementation gaps and patterns across accounts, not just one-off issues.
Partner directly with Product on roadmap input, reviewing PRDs and Engineering Design docs with a field perspective on feasibility and customer impact.
Identify and close gaps in public-facing documentation so best practices scale beyond direct FDE involvement.
Continuously improve how the team scopes projects and gathers requirements, codifying lessons from the most complex accounts into repeatable process.
Partner with internal Support teams on complex, escalated account issues that require deep technical and historical account context.
What Success looks like:
Customers view the FDE as a strategic technical partner, not a project-execution resource.
Accounts are architected in ways that hold up as customers scale — fewer emergency escalations, less rework.
Product and Engineering treat the FDE's field input as a reliable signal for roadmap prioritization.
Experience & Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in technical services, professional services, solutions consulting, implementation, or a related customer-facing technical function. Search experience strongly preferred.
Proven ability to lead technical escalations and work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Support, and Customer Success teams to drive resolution.
Strong background in customer implementations, integrations, technical consulting, or solution delivery for SaaS commerce, martech, search, or related enterprise platforms.
Experience driving delivery quality, operational rigor, and process improvement in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution and day-to-day team support.
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders, manage competing priorities, and escalate proactively.
