PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Field Service Engineer, Residential and Commercial Solar commissions and repairs SMA residential and commercial solar products on site and remotely, and serves as the Service team’s go to technical expert. The role resolves the most complex customer issues, mentors first and second level support, and works directly with R&D to improve how our inverter and communications products perform in the field.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs on site and remote commissioning of SMA residential and commercial systems.

Completes on site repairs through the BlueNote repair program.

Provides third level technical support for complex and unresolved customer issues, including field engineering engagements, and acts as the primary customer contact when required.

Serves as an expert technical resource and mentor for the first and second level Home and Business Service team.

Works with R&D to optimize the design, performance and serviceability of inverter and communications products.

Assists in developing and delivering advanced Home and Business training content.

Conducts case quality audits and provides training to the Service team.

Develops and maintains technical documentation, work instructions, FAQs and best practices for the department and customers.

Documents and ensures compliance with prevailing wage requirements on relevant projects.

Arranges and maintains travel plans through the company travel system, including bookings, changes and expense compliance.

Other duties as may be required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

3 to 5 years of experience in a technical support role or equivalent.

Experience in solar electric PV installation, system design or inspection.

Training in residential and commercial solar products and systems.

Advanced troubleshooting and technical support skills.

Expertise in solar electric PV systems.

Strong communication, problem solving and presentation skills.

Proficiency in English and Microsoft Office.

Attention to detail and accuracy.

Flexibility to work nonstandard hours.

Ability to travel as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Knowledge of SMA products and power plant measurement techniques.

Pre sales technical review experience.

NABCEP certification.

Additional language skills.

Extent of responsibility: Regional

LOCATION AND WORK MODEL

This position is hybrid, based at our Rocklin, California headquarters. When not in the field, the role follows the Service team’s hybrid schedule. Travel is required for this position.

WORK AUTHORIZATION
