Position Summary:

The Facilities & Cold Storage Technician is responsible for the daily monitoring, and reporting of all environmental storage units.  Perform preventive maintenance, repair of refrigeration equipment and monitoring systems for the Repository department.  This role will be required to conform to the company equipment/system validation and maintenance program.  This role will complete simple to intermediate repairs for all equipment related to repository operations.

Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:

Monitoring of freezers:

Respond to freezer alarms in accordance with standard operating procedures

Monitor freezers, refrigerator and room temperatures as assigned by Manager

Preventive maintenance and limited evaluation of refrigeration equipment:

Change alarm batteries on mechanical freezers as appropriate

Clean all air filters and compressor compartments to ensure they are free of dust and debris

Perform all inspections of refrigeration equipment which consists of a 15 point inspection of critical systems, including but not limited to oil level, compressor operation, electrical demand, temperature sensor calibration, etc.

Perform performance qualifications of all refrigeration equipment

Refrigeration, lab equipment, Central Monitoring System and Emergency Generator Inspection and Repair:

Review equipment failures and evaluate potential causes with little supervision

Repair all problems as capable

Perform weekly inspections of emergency generators

Install and maintain low voltage wiring for Central Monitoring System

Miscellaneous:

Respond to equipment failures as directed in an appropriate manner during and after regular business hours

Participate in Facilities Group On-Call rotation

Participate in specimen relocations as required

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent

0-1 years’ related experience

Other Required:

Ability to install low voltage electrical wiring

Must have or is willing to obtain a DOT certified medical exam card in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR 391.41-391.49)

Required to drive vehicles up to 25,999 lbs GVW

Must have and maintain a safe driving record and provide proof of such on an annual basis

Must be a flexible agile team player who can change activities and directions quickly and respond to a variety of assignment and changing business needs

Ability to lift and carry between 31-50 lbs.; Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. overhead with assistance; frequently required to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods; occasionally required to squat, bend, stoop, push, kneel, reach and perform tasks with repetitive motion; Will be exposed to a cold freezer environment (Freezer temperatures range between -20ºC -196ºC)

Must be able to read, write, speak fluently and comprehend the English language

Preferred:

Facilities or Laboratory related experience

The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
