Experienced Consultant, Energy & Utilities
West Monroe is seeking an Experienced Consultant to join our Energy & Utilities practice in Chicago. In this role, you will work alongside clients and cross-functional teams to solve complex business and technology challenges across the energy and utilities industry. You will take increasing ownership of workstreams and deliverables, apply analytical thinking to client problems, and translate insights into practical solutions that create measurable value. This role is designed for someone who can work independently while collaborating effectively with clients and project teams.
What You Will Do
Support energy and utility clients on strategic, operational, digital, and technology transformation initiatives.
Analyze business processes, operating models, customer needs, technology capabilities, and data to identify opportunities and develop actionable recommendations.
Own defined workstreams and deliverables, managing priorities and producing accurate, client-ready work.
Facilitate interviews, workshops, and working sessions to gather requirements, understand business challenges, and align stakeholders on solutions.
Clearly articulate an understanding of each client’s business and the value delivered through project recommendations and solutions.
Identify and communicate project risks, issues, and dependencies while collaborating with team members to resolve challenges.
Build knowledge of the energy and utilities industry, including evolving customer expectations, grid modernization, electrification, regulatory priorities, and emerging technologies.
Contribute to client and industry research, proposals, pursuit materials, and other business development activities.
Share knowledge from client engagements and help improve tools, templates, methodologies, and ways of working across the practice.
Leverage AI tools to accelerate analysis, synthesize complex information, and support data-driven recommendations for clients, exercising sound judgment in evaluating outputs.
Apply AI technologies (e.g., generative AI, automation tools, data models) to enhance insights, improve delivery efficiency, and elevate the quality of client outcomes.
What You Will Bring
2+ years of relevant consulting, energy and utilities, business transformation, technology, operations, or related professional experience.
Understanding of the energy and utilities industry, with experience in areas such as electric or gas utilities, grid modernization, customer operations, asset management, energy transition, or utility technology preferred.
Experience conducting analysis, gathering requirements, developing recommendations, and creating client-ready deliverables.
Strong problem-solving, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to manage priorities independently while contributing effectively within collaborative project teams.
Experience integrating AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) into day-to-day workflows to enhance productivity and insight generation, coupled with strong critical thinking to assess accuracy, mitigate bias, and ensure high-quality outputs.
Ability to travel 50%-75% annually.

Based on pay transparency guidelines, the salary range for this role can vary based on your proximity to one of our West Monroe offices (see table below). Individual salaries are determined by evaluating a variety of factors including geography, experience, skills, education, and internal equity.
