RESPONSIBILITIES

The Editorial Manager helps experts turn complex analysis into clear, precise, and compelling content while preserving the experts’ technical judgment and voice. This involves writing and editing client deliverables (expert reports, presentations, trial demonstratives, etc.) and market-facing content (articles, client alerts, case studies, etc.). Working closely with client teams and members of the Marketing & Communications function, this person shapes and edits substantive content for a range of audiences and works across practices, including Construction, Damages & Valuations, Economics, and Engineering Sciences. The role focuses on billable support for client engagements with additional editorial support for marketing and business development initiatives.

Client Deliverables & Editorial Support

Serve as a billable editorial resource to cross-practice client teams, shaping and editing expert reports, analyses, presentations, and other client deliverables as engagement needs require.

Improve structure, clarity, logic, tone, and readability while maintaining the accuracy, nuance, and independence of expert analysis and opinions.

Edit and proofread client deliverables from early drafts through final review, helping teams resolve inconsistencies and prepare polished, quality materials for delivery.

Collaborate with designers and data visualization specialists to make written and visual elements work together in polished deliverables when feasible.

Work with experts and project leads to scope editorial effort around the assignment, audience, and review process; manage deadlines and revisions, and record time and project work in accordance with engagement requirements.

Thought Leadership & Expert Insights

Partner with subject-matter experts and Practice Marketing Managers to develop and edit articles, client alerts, research summaries, case studies, and other substantive content.

Interview experts, develop outlines and drafts, and turn specialized analysis into authoritative, persuasive content without compromising the depth and technical nature of the content.

Adapt content for different audiences and formats while retaining technical rigor and an appropriate expert voice.

Support high-priority proposals, qualifications, and other business development materials when deep editorial expertise will improve the narrative.

Collaborate with the Communications Manager on firmwide messaging, publication plans, and opportunities to extend expert insights through digital, social, and PR channels.

Editorial Standards, Quality & Collaboration

Build repeatable editorial methods, checklists, and templates that help client teams and marketers produce clear, consistent work.

Apply sound judgment on confidentiality, permissions, attribution, citations, and approval requirements; escalate questions to engagement leads or designated reviewers.

Act as a “writing coach” for experts and help colleagues strengthen writing and editing practices through writing workshops and providing constructive feedback.

Manage competing client and internal deadlines with team leadership; communicate capacity and sequencing early.

QUALIFICATIONS

Significant experience editing complex analytical, technical, legal, or professional services content for demanding audiences.

Excellent developmental and line editing skills, with the ability to improve arguments and prose while preserving the author’s expertise and intent.

Confidence working directly with senior experts, handling sensitive materials, and delivering under client deadlines.

Experience with expert reports, litigation or arbitration materials, consulting deliverables, or related work.

At Secretariat, we believe in pay transparency and equity. Compensation for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, and location. Further details will be provided during the hiring process.
