Interstates is seeking an experienced Director of Safety to provide leadership for our data center project portfolio. This high-impact role will shape and advance a proactive safety culture across complex, fast-paced construction environments while partnering closely with Operations, project leaders, clients, and field teams.

The Director of Safety will help make safety instinctive—integrating it into daily work, project planning, decision-making, and operational processes. This is an opportunity to influence enterprise safety strategy while supporting some of the most demanding and rapidly evolving projects in the industry.

What You’ll Do

•    Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Safety team.

•    Partner with senior Operations and project leaders to integrate safety into data center planning and execution.

•    Establish priorities, allocate resources, and drive accountability across multiple projects and states.

•    Lead response to significant incidents, emerging risks, and complex safety matters.

•    Advance Human and Organizational Performance, Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention, organizational learning, and continuous improvement.

•    Use safety performance data and trends to identify risks and guide action.

•    Represent Interstates with clients and industry stakeholders during high-impact situations.

•    Advise senior leaders on safety risk, business impact, and the best path forward.

What You Bring

•    15+ years of progressive safety leadership experience, including industrial construction.

•    Experience leading safety across multiple states and complex project environments.

•    Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering or a related field.

•    Strong executive presence, strategic judgment, and the ability to influence through partnership.

•    Experience leading significant incidents, organizational change, resource allocation, and budgets.

•    Strong relationship-building and communication skills, particularly in high-pressure situations.

•    Working knowledge of EHS management systems, workers’ compensation requirements, and risk mitigation.

•    Willingness and ability to travel significantly.

Location & Travel: This position can be based out of our Omaha, NE Office.  Travel will be required and will vary according to business requirements. Up to 40% may be expected.
