Director of Product & Engineering - Long Stays
Long Stays is one of the fastest-growing segments in hospitality, and it runs on software built for entirely different guests. This role exists to change that.
As Director of Product and Engineering, Long Stays, you will own the strategy, product direction, technical architecture and commercial outcomes for this segment at Mews. Long Stays is not a feature — it is a distinct customer type with distinct economics. Hybrid hospitality operators, student accommodation providers, aparthotels, coliving spaces: they are scaling fast, and the operational complexity they face is not well-served by tools built for nightly stays. You will build the capability that changes that.
You will report to the VP of Product and Engineering and be the single accountable owner for Long Stays as a product area. The team is lean. The expectation is that you are in the work — not only setting direction, but writing specs, reviewing what ships, contributing to the hardest problems yourself.
What you would do
Own the Long Stays product vision, strategy and roadmap across hybrid hospitality operators, student accommodation, aparthotels and coliving, with direct accountability for ARR growth and product north star metrics.
Build and own the full resident lifecycle as a product capability: booking and lead-to-lease (monthly booking engine, tenant screening, contracting, guest verification and document collection); move-in and onboarding; billing and payments (recurring billing, SEPA and BACS direct debit, deposit lifecycle, invoice delivery, rent increases); revenue management and hybrid inventory yield; and the tenant self-service portal.
Drive embedded payments revenue as a shared commercial outcome — working closely with the Fintech division to ensure the right fintech products reach this segment and are adopted.
Set the technical direction for the tribe: architecture choices, engineering standards, system health. You are the senior technical and product voice here.
Build and develop a small team of product builders — setting context, developing craft and ensuring each builder can operate with real ownership of their sub-metrics.
Hire into the tribe as it grows, with full accountability for calibration and performance.
Align with other tribes on shared infrastructure, coordinate on cross-team work and carry the Long Stays perspective into cross-functional forums across the organisation.
What you would bring
Experience in both product ownership and hands-on product building — you move between strategy and execution in the same week.
Technical depth: you can engage seriously with engineers on architecture and system design, and you have clear views on what good engineering looks like in practice.
A track record in vertical or segment-specific product contexts — you know what it takes to build for a specific customer type and make a credible commercial case for it.
Experience running a small, high-ownership team where you set the context and each person has real accountability.
You have gone beyond personal productivity with AI: you have redesigned how you or a team works using AI tools, built approaches others can follow, and you hold outputs to a real standard rather than accepting them at face value.
Strong commercial instincts — Long Stays has real revenue potential and genuine pricing complexity, and you know how to navigate both.
Nice to have
Experience in hospitality, property management, short-term rentals, student accommodation or a similarly operationally intensive sector.
