Director, Medical Science Liaison, Germany
The Opportunity:
The Director, Medical Science Liaison, Germany will play a key leadership role within the medical organization in Germany. This individual will be responsible for managing, coaching and developing a high-performing Medical Science Liaison team in close cross functional partnership within Germany, but also medically with European and global MSL teams. This role is de facto the MSL team lead and will be responsible to ensure seamless execution of medical strategies, streamline medical field-based insights collaborate compliantly with the reginal managers. This role will report to the Senior Director, Medical Affairs, Germany.
This position is field-based in Germany.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Medical Science Liaison team.
Drive execution of field medical strategies aligned with business priorities and compliance standards.
Ensure high-quality scientific engagement with healthcare professionals and medical experts.
Oversee collection and translation of external insights into actionable medical strategies.
Strengthen cross-functional collaboration to support evidence-based decision-making and patient outcomes.
Build and maintain trusted partnerships with scientific experts, institutions, and professional societies.
Champion field medical excellence through coaching, capability building, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills, Experience and Education:
Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or relevant life sciences/business degree preferred).
10+ years experience as Medical Science Liaison, 5+ years of experience in a Medical Science Liaison lead role with personnel management responsibilities or comparable field-based medical role.
Proven experience in a Medical Science Liaison or comparable field-based medical role.
Strong ability to interpret and communicate complex clinical and scientific data.
Demonstrated success collaborating across cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Solid understanding of healthcare systems, evidence generation, and medical governance requirements.
Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, coaching, and stakeholder engagement skills with a patient-focused mindset.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment while managing multiple priorities.
Proficiency in Medical Affairs systems (e.g., Datavision, Veeva CRM, medical information databases, grants management platforms).
Knowledge of industry regulations (PhRMA Code, Sunshine Act, GPP, FDA, ACCME) and how they impact Medical Affairs operations.
Experience in budget management and financial tracking.
Ability to liaise with cross-functional teams, including Commercial and Sales, Legal, Compliance, Finance, and IT.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills to manage operations and drive efficiency.
Strong ability to maintain accurate records and compliance documentation.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in oncology or precision medicine is a plus.
Prior experience working in a fast-paced, matrixed biotech or pharmaceutical environment, and engagement.
Familiarity with emerging digital tools for Medical Affairs operations and engagement.
