ABOUT THIS ROLE

We’re seeking a Director of Influencer Marketing to lead strategic creator, influencer and celebrity programs for Orchestra’s Impact & Philanthropy practice, representing foundations, nonprofits, advocacy organizations, political and civic initiatives and other mission-driven clients.

This role is designed for a modern influence strategist who understands a fundamental challenge facing impact work today: having something important to say does not guarantee people will pay attention.

You will help causes, organizations and movements break through an increasingly crowded and fragmented information environment, identifying the voices, communities and cultural moments that can make complex or consequential issues feel relevant, credible and worth engaging with.

You understand that influence in this space looks different from traditional consumer marketing. The right messenger may be a creator or celebrity, but it may also be an advocate, expert, community leader or trusted voice with credibility among a highly specific audience. You know how to build ecosystems of influence around an issue, pairing the right messenger with the right audience, message and moment to build awareness, deepen understanding and inspire action. This reflects Orchestra’s broader approach to influence: defining audiences and archetypes, building authentic relationships and using those relationships to shape narratives over time.

This role requires both big-picture strategic thinking and hands-on execution. You will collaborate across Impact & Philanthropy, public affairs, PR, digital, content, paid media and research teams to build integrated programs that help important ideas compete for attention—and translate that attention into meaningful impact.

Role location: This role is based in our New York, N.Y. or Washington, D.C. office on a hybrid basis. The Impact team is in-office at least 3 days per week.

ABOUT THE IMPACT & PHILANTHROPY  TEAM

Our Impact & Philanthropy team works with organizations tackling some of the most consequential issues of our time. We partner with foundations, nonprofits, advocacy organizations, philanthropists, civic leaders and mission-driven institutions to turn ambitious ideas into communications strategies that reach and move the audiences who matter.

Our work sits at the intersection of culture, communications, advocacy and impact. We help clients translate complex issues into compelling narratives, identify credible messengers, build coalitions of support and create moments that break through beyond the audiences already paying attention.

As part of Orchestra, the team can bring together expertise across public affairs, media relations, digital, research, creative, social and influence because the most effective impact campaigns do not live in silos.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

As the Director, Influencer Marketing you will…

Develop and lead creator, influencer and celebrity strategies for foundations, nonprofits, advocacy organizations, political and civic initiatives and other mission-driven clients

Build ecosystems of influence around causes and issues, identifying the mix of creators, experts, advocates, community leaders, cultural figures and other trusted voices capable of reaching priority audiences

Translate complex social, political and philanthropic issues into compelling, accessible storytelling without sacrificing nuance or credibility

Identify the audiences clients need to reach—and understand the voices, platforms, communities and cultural conversations that actually influence them

Design programs across the full influence lifecycle, from awareness and education to engagement, advocacy, fundraising and other forms of action

Develop influencer archetypes, engagement strategies and long-term relationship programs that move clients beyond transactional, one-off partnerships

Build programs that create reciprocal value for both clients and influential voices, recognizing that creators are motivated by access, legitimacy and the ability to shape issues they care about in addition to financial opportunity

Integrate organic relationships, paid creator partnerships and amplification strategies to extend reach and deepen impact

Oversee influencer identification, vetting and partnership management, with particular attention to credibility, values alignment, reputational considerations and issue sensitivity

Identify opportunities for clients to participate thoughtfully in cultural and news moments, balancing speed and relevance with the judgment required for cause-based work

Develop client-facing strategic plans, measurement frameworks and reporting tied to communications and impact objectives

Connect digital influence to real-world engagement, including events, advocacy moments, convenings, fundraising initiatives and community activations

Collaborate closely with Impact & Philanthropy, public affairs, PR, digital, research, paid media and creative teams to ensure influencer strategy strengthens the broader communications campaign

Foster trusted relationships with creators, advocates, experts, organizations and other influential voices across the impact ecosystem

Support new business development by contributing influence strategy, scopes of work and proposals for mission-driven organizations and initiatives

Serve as a strategic advisor to clients on who influences the audiences they need to reach, what those audiences care about and how their issue can credibly earn attention

Essential skills:

5–7 years of relevant experience in influencer marketing, advocacy, social impact, political communications, philanthropy, public affairs, PR or integrated communications

Demonstrated experience developing communications or influence strategies around causes, issues or mission-driven work

Strong understanding of how information, culture and public conversation move across social and digital platforms and how trusted messengers can help issues reach audiences beyond the already converted

Deep knowledge of the modern influence ecosystem, extending beyond traditional creators to include advocates, experts, community leaders, cultural figures and other credible third-party voices

Ability to take complex, nuanced or technical issues and identify culturally relevant ways to make them understandable and engaging

Strong judgment around sensitive issues, reputational risk, messenger credibility and the dynamics of political and cause-based communications

Experience combining organic relationship-building with paid partnerships and amplification

Ability to distinguish between reach and actual influence, using audience fit, credibility, engagement and strategic relevance to identify the right partners

Ability to balance detail-oriented execution with big-picture strategic thinking while managing multiple clients, campaigns and deadlines

Experience managing and mentoring junior team members while confidently counseling senior client stakeholders and partners

A natural curiosity about culture, politics, philanthropy, social movements and the people and communities shaping conversation

Desire to constantly test new approaches rather than defaulting to a traditional influencer-marketing playbook
