Director, Growth Engineering
ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
The Director of Growth Engineering will lead the Growth engineering teams with strong partnership with growth product, overseeing all software engineering efforts dedicated to driving user acquisition, activation, and conversion across iOS, Android, and Web platforms. This role is a critical blend of strategic vision, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration aimed at scaling our growth platform and services to maximize User Acquisition, Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) and user lifetime value while maintaining engineering standards and excellence.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Essential Job Duties & Functions
Strategic Engineering Leadership
Define and articulate a multi-year Growth Engineering Strategy aligned with corporate goals such as new market entry and feature expansion.
Facilitate long-term engineering strategies in partnership with the Product organization.
Collaborate with Marketing to develop and optimize the marketing technology stack strategy.
Champion an innovation-led culture focused on A/B testing infrastructure and rapid experimentation to optimize the conversion funnel.
Technical Oversight & Architecture
Oversee the design and evolution of highly available, secure growth foundational systems
Push for more scalable and maintainable future systems within the Growth teams and establish technical standards.
Drive the development of personalization engineering, including User Personalization systems.
Bridge the gap between Growth data and Data Engineering/BI to improve data warehousing and business metric reporting.
Own the SDLC and enable and execute on solid foundations for operational excellence.
Team Management & Development
Lead and evolve a team of Engineering Managers and Software Engineers across multiple platforms: backend, mobile, and Web.
Mentor and coach technical leaders while driving hiring, performance reviews, and career progression plans.
Educate the team on growth strategies and building future-proof technical solutions.
Refine the Growth-domain career ladder to ensure alignment with broader engineering leveling.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with User Acquisition (UA) and Marketing Automation (MA) teams to align engineering deliverables with campaign goals.
Coordinate with Data Engineering and Business Intelligence to ensure accurate measurements of growth funnel events to downstream reporting and analysis.
Partner with vertical Product and Engineering leads to ensure horizontal Growth initiatives integrate seamlessly with the overall product roadmap.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
Proven experience at least 4+ years in technical leadership across growth teams, specifically within mobile and web environments.
Strong background in technical solutions involving marketing, product, and engineering teams.
Track record instituting sound SDLC practices (testing, code review, incident response, observability) in high-velocity environment, can balance speed with system quality
Expertise in managing complex subscription lifecycles and payment integration systems.
Ability to act as a multiplier for teams, proactively identifying and owning areas of improvement.
Deep understanding of experimentation methodologies, including A/B testing and instrumentation.
A strong curiosity for exploring new technologies, including AI

Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
Ability to travel quarterly for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp.
ADDED BONUSES
Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:
Experience working and integrating with user attribution and marketing automation technologies
Experience with analytics technology that tracks and reports website and app traffic, user behavior, and visitor data
Experience with reporting tools like Tableau, Looker, etc.

HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED
onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $200,000 and $249,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based upon experience, skills, certifications, education, among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and an annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
