Director Analytics Engineering
As Director, Analytics Engineering, you’ll lead the roadmap, architecture, and team responsible for the trusted data foundations that power 1Password’s business. You’ll shape how data is modeled, tested, documented, governed, and made available to teams across Marketing, Finance, Product, Analytics, and Data Engineering, while staying close to the technical work when it matters. By building reliable data foundations for Artificial Intelligence (AI), you’ll help advance 1Password’s mission to create a safer, simpler digital future. Reporting to the VP, Data Analytics, this role is remote within the United States and Canada.
How we’re using AI today
On the Finance team, we’re using AI to drive productivity, scale insight, and deliver better decision-making across 1Password. AI helps us move faster and sharpen our thinking, from summarizing context and pressure-testing assumptions to turning complex inputs into clear executive-level narratives. We bring AI into our work thoughtfully, improving repeatable workflows while staying accountable for the accuracy, confidentiality, and controls behind every output, creating space to focus on judgement, strategic partnership, and meaningful business outcomes.
This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.
What we're looking for:
• Required: Significant experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data architecture, including experience leading and developing teams.
• Required: Strong Structured Query Language (SQL) and dbt experience, including advanced data modeling, incremental processing, testing, documentation, and multi-environment deployment.
• Required: Deep knowledge of dimensional modeling, such as Kimball or star schema approaches, applied in complex Business-to-Business (B2B) Software as a Service (SaaS) environments.
• Required: Experience with modern cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift, including decisions related to performance, cost, and scale.
• Required: Experience establishing semantic layer strategies and trusted metric definitions across an organization.
• Required: Ability to translate complex business priorities into a clear data platform roadmap and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
• Preferred: Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect, and AI-assisted analytics engineering workflows.
What you can expect:
• Own the vision, roadmap, and execution for 1Password’s analytics engineering function, including core data models, semantic layers, Business Intelligence (BI) tooling, and pipeline infrastructure.
• Hire, manage, and develop analytics engineers while establishing clear career ladders, leveling expectations, and performance practices.
• Set standards for data modeling, testing, documentation, code review, deployment, and data quality.
• Stay close to the technical work by reviewing complex dbt models, optimizing SQL, and helping troubleshoot high-priority pipeline issues.
• Serve as a senior technical partner on data modeling and metric governance, ensuring definitions are consistent, trusted, and well documented.
• Partner with leaders across Data Engineering, Analytics, Finance, Marketing, Product, and Go To Market (GTM) teams to turn business needs into a prioritized roadmap.
• Build governed, reliable data foundations that support company-wide decision-making, AI initiatives, and Generative BI experiences.

How we work with AI
We are committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology—including AI—to achieve our mission. We also understand that thinking critically about AI in its current forms will help us create better solutions for our customers and ourselves with its future forms, which will help us continue to close the gap between security and privacy and achieve our mission. We want team members at all levels to take the approach of actively learning AI best practices, identifying opportunities to apply AI in meaningful ways, and driving innovative solutions in their daily work. Embracing the future of AI isn't just encouraged—it's an essential part of how we will be successful at 1Password.
This approach extends to our hiring process—candidates are welcome to use AI tools responsibly and thoughtfully during the application process. To us, this means we do ask that you join live interviews without using AI tools so we can get to know how you communicate, solve problems, and collaborate with others.
