DBRE SME (Database Reliability Engineering) – Remote
We're looking for an experienced Database Reliability Engineering (DBRE) SME to join our team and work with a leading aviation customer. This is a fully remote role where you'll play a key part in improving the reliability, performance and scalability of critical database platforms.
As the Database Reliability Engineering SME, you'll be the technical expert across open-source database technologies, with a particular focus on Percona/MySQL and MongoDB. You'll work closely with engineering teams to optimise database performance, improve resilience, support high availability and implement best practice monitoring and disaster recovery strategies.
Key responsibilities & Duties Include:
Optimising the performance, availability and reliability of production databases.
Supporting and improving MongoDB and Percona/MySQL environments.
Reviewing and improving replica sets, sharding, replication and clustering.
Troubleshooting database issues and carrying out root cause analysis.
Designing and validating backup and disaster recovery solutions.
Building and improving database monitoring, observability and alerting.
Leading database upgrades, migrations and optimisation projects.
Working closely with DevOps, infrastructure and application teams to deliver reliable database platforms.
Creating documentation, runbooks and sharing best practices with the wider engineering team.
Required Skills:
7+ years' experience in Database Engineering or Database Reliability Engineering.
Strong hands-on experience with Percona/MySQL.
Commercial experience supporting MongoDB (including replica sets, sharding, indexing and performance tuning).
Experience with PostgreSQL is beneficial.
Strong understanding of replication, clustering and high availability.
Experience with backup and disaster recovery, including Percona XtraBackup.
Experience using monitoring tools such as Percona Monitoring and Management (PMM), Prometheus and Grafana.
Good Linux/Unix administration and scripting skills.
Experience working with AWS, Azure or GCP database services is an advantage
