Customer Success Manager, Commercial Markets
This role is for a Customer Success Manager for Planet’s commercial markets. You will be responsible for managing and expanding relationships with customers, including in the agriculture and mapping verticals. You will help customers maximize the value of Planet’s imagery and geospatial solutions, ensuring that they can effectively integrate Planet data into their business workflows.
The ideal candidate is a consultative strategist who naturally takes ownership of the account lifecycle post sales supporting renewal and expansion opportunities. We are looking for a thought partner with deep business acumen and situational awareness who can adapt seamlessly from an executive briefing to a deep dive with technical teams. You will operate in lockstep with your sales counterparts, combining technical value realization with commercial strategy to build a unified account front. As the customer success manager, you will seek to understand our customers' business models and anticipate their downstream needs. This includes a relentless drive for value realization, ensuring our customers can clearly measure and articulate the tangible ROI Planet delivers.
This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to work from our San Francisco or Washington DC office 3 days per week.
Impact You'll Own:
Take full accountability for gross and net retention metrics across your book of business, ensuring long-term customer health and growth.
Partner closely with Account Executives to build unified commercial strategies by bringing actionable account insights and forward-looking recommendations to internal syncs.
Map out long-term account trajectories proactively to identify capacity gaps, risks, and expansion opportunities early.
Co-create success plans and QBRs that enable customers to clearly measure and present the business impact and ROI of Planet solutions.
Build solid relationships across complex stakeholder networks, equipping internal champions with the data they need to advocate for the partnership.
Lead cross-functional internal teams through critical account milestones to ensure alignment and clear execution.
Navigate high-stakes customer situations with composure and sound judgment, prioritizing effectively under pressure.
What You Bring:
4+ years of experience in Customer Success, Account Management, or a strategic customer-facing role.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Good working knowledge of remote sensing, GIS, or geospatial imagery products, with the ability to bridge technical workflows with commercial value.
A track record of acting as a thought partner by asking reframing questions that probe client motivations, pressures, and business context.
A solid understanding of commercial business models (how clients make money, industry market shifts, and regulatory changes) and the ability to weigh the trade-offs of customer requests.
Great situational awareness with an outstanding ability to read between the lines, dynamically adjust your tone, depth, and detail whether presenting to an executive or collaborating with a technical lead.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with a professional presence that earns trust.
Flexibility to support global business needs, including availability for US calls.
Willingness to travel to connect with customers and internal teams.
What Makes You Stand Out:
Experience working within the agriculture sector, with a deep understanding of how AgTech companies, insurers, and large-scale growers evaluate and implement geospatial solutions.
Proficiency in using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Customer Success (CS) tools (e.g., Salesforce, Gainsight, Zendesk) to manage workflows and report on team metrics.
Ability to translate customer data into actionable insights.
