What You'll Do
Join MasterControl's Context Engineering team and build real product features using AI development tools (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode) from day one.
The unique opportunity: Most internships have you working in isolation. Here, what you learn directly translates into improving the developer experience across the organization. You'll use GenAI tools to build features faster, then help optimize those same tools and practices for 150+ engineers. Your insights as anew user of these tools will be invaluable in refining how we work.
You'll contribute to two main projects:
Primary: MissionControl — our open-source agent work-management and monitoring desktop app. MissionControl gives teams visibility into and control over their AI agent work: work items, agents, sessions, and git work trees, with review gates and observability built in.
You'll work across the whole product:
Core app: React/TypeScript web UI and server — work item management, agent session observability, work tree workflows, and review gates
MCP server and tooling: the Model Context Protocol surface used to drive and observe agent work
Rust launcher: self-upgrading per-platform launcher with supply-chain hardening and mandatory checksum verification
Website: the Astro marketing site
Secondary: AI-tool usage analytics— build systems to track and improve how engineers use AI tools across the company, including data collection servers, analytics dashboards, and cloud infrastructure on Kubernetes.
Key Responsibilities
Build full-stack features for MissionControl: React/TypeScript web UI, server, and MCP tools
Contribute to the Rust self-upgrading launcher and its supply-chain hardening
Write comprehensive tests (unit, integration, end-to-end) using Vi test and Playwright
Create data pipelines and work with PostgreSQL databases handling millions of records
Deploy services to Kubernetes and set up CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions
Use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode) for rapid development, test generation, and code reviews
Tech Stack
Languages: TypeScript/JavaScript, Rust, and whatever languages are best suited to the product outcomes we need
Frontend: React, Material-UI, Astro (website), Vi test (testing), Playwright (end-to-end testing)
Backend & tooling: Node.js, MCP (Model Context Protocol), Jira/Atlassian APIs, PostgreSQL
Infrastructure: Kubernetes (container orchestration), Docker, GitHub Actions (CI/CD)
GenAI Tools: Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode
Requirements
Self-directed learner who actively seeks out information and experiments with new technologies
Self-starter who takes initiative and makes progress without constant direction
Ability to understand complex systems and break down problems step by step
Resourceful problem-solver who uses AI tools, documentation, and code examples
Strong communicator who explains concepts clearly and works well with other
Comfortable with uncertainty and changing requirements
What You'll Learn
How to build MCP servers and GenAI developer tooling that agents use to do real work
Context engineering: how to represent work, architecture, and process so AI agents can reason about it
Full-stack development: React/TypeScript frontend, Node.js server, and Rust systems programming
API design, cloud deployment, and comprehensive testing strategies
Code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, security and supply-chain requirements, and documentation practices
Position intended for students of Northeastern University as part of the Co-op Program, but all applications will be considered.
