Role Overview

Schumacher Hospitality is growing its custom carpet program and is looking for an Associate Production Designer to sit at the center of it. This role serves Schumacher Hospitality but sits organizationally within, and reports into, the Director, Custom Production, Carpets on the Patterson Flynn Custom team — giving the role direct access to Patterson Flynn's custom production expertise while dedicating its work to Hospitality's carpet projects. You'll own the design and artwork side of those projects — translating client specifications into production-ready renderings — while also supporting the production coordination that gets a design from concept to installed floor. Day to day, you'll work closely with the Patterson Flynn Custom team and overseas mill partners, and partner with the Hospitality sales team, Project Managers, Design Director, and Portfolio Director to bring client carpet designs to life.

You Will

Design & Artwork

Create scaled digital artwork renderings (Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop) for custom carpet requests, including full-layout renderings, strike-offs, and room placements

Translate client specifications — colorways, pattern modifications, sizing, and construction details — into production-ready artwork files

Support revision cycles through to client sign-off, maintaining an organized archive of artwork versions

Send finalized artwork and color matches to vendors, digitally or via physical packages

Custom Carpet Consultation

Advise the Hospitality sales team on carpet constructions, fiber types, and performance characteristics for client requests

Support colorway and material development based on project requirements

Review client feedback on samples and strike-offs, and support the approvals process through to production release

Production Coordination

Support the product development process from concept through PO placement and freight coordination

Track orders through production milestones with mill partners, gathering technical specifications, costing, and production details

Flag delays or discrepancies to senior team members and help troubleshoot production or quality issues

Coordinate sample and strike-off shipments between mills, showrooms, and the sales team

Vendor & Cross-Team Communication

Communicate technical specifications and artwork files clearly and accurately to mill teams

Share project details, timelines, and development updates with the Hospitality sales team

Support positive supplier relationships to help ensure efficient production, quality consistency, and timely delivery

You Are/Have

1–5 years of experience in rug/carpet or textile design and production — familiarity with construction types such as hand-knotted, hand-tufted, flatweave, and broadloom is a plus

Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, or equivalent artwork software

An understanding of rug and carpet constructions, fiber types, and performance characteristics

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects

A clear, professional communicator, comfortable working with sales teams, account managers, and overseas suppliers

Detail-oriented with a proactive, solutions-focused approach

A genuine appreciation for design quality and craftsmanship
