Associate Medical Director, Medical Strategy & Scientific Affairs
Position Overview
The Associate Medical Director is the Medical Brand lead on their brand(s) and is responsible for the development and strategic alignment of medical content with brand objectives. The Associate Medical Director is the primary medical contact for the client and is responsible for the scientific accuracy, quality, and timeliness of all ongoing projects for the brand. The Associate Medical Director acts as mentor for Medical Writers/Senior Medial Writers and may have managerial responsibilities (direct reports).
Responsibilities
Content Development & Execution:
Is accountable for all assigned projects; assumes greater volume than SMW or MW
Oversees and creates content for a brand, including reviewing content developed by SMW/MW for scientific accuracy and alignment to strategy/client objectives before senior team review
Writes and annotates content as appropriate
Ensures that all projects, including those led by direct reports, meet external and internal timelines and agreed to deadlines
Keeps track of all ongoing projects and learns how to assess and escalate when resource needs are anticipated
Planning:
Understands the brand strategy space and proactively provides recommendations regarding planned projects to internal and external team
Acts as primary medical voice during external kickoff meetings for assigned projects, working with manager to obtain answers to all medically-relevant kickoff questions
Fully understands BGBx processes and is responsible for assessment of time required for project completion across complete range of BGBx deliverables
Client Interface:
As primary client-facing Medical Brand Lead, takes ownership of medical portion of client or KOL calls, advisory boards, and onsite meetings
Communicates directly with clients and KOLs to provide feedback on status of medical work and asks clarifying questions when necessary
Attends client/review meetings to answer queries, capture comments, and support client in presenting new ideas/concepts or defend agency work
Builds rapport with clients and maintains client trust through provision of strategic recommendations
Partners with manager and Account team to provide the client with a strategically aligned BGBx team on teleconferences and in person
Agency Interface and Process:
Oversees communications about status of projects owned by self and direct reports to manager
Communicates with internal Medical/Account teams when sick days or vacation are needed to ensure proper coverage for expected or potential emergency work that may arise
Communicates outside of working hours when necessary
Models BGBx process throughout all aspects of day-to-day work, including project planning, content development and routing, and internal communications
Acts as Medical Brand Lead during internal meetings and can accurately assess and communicate time needed to complete projects to greater brand team, and shared services
Local (tri-state) client engagement travel as needed/required.
Preferred Qualifications

We’re looking for individuals who would enjoy working on a range of projects, including traditional “left-brained” projects (complex scientific analysis) and traditional “right-brained” projects (creative, innovative communications). Our ideal candidates are detail-oriented and team-focused, with excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills. AMD Candidates must:
Have an MD, PharmD, PhD or other terminal scientific degree with 2 or more years prior industry experience
Demonstrate strong baseline medical writing skills and understanding of the healthcare communications space
Possess a strong desire to drive strategic development, lead a team, and be immersed in a variety of new projects
A desire to become the medical expert for assigned brand(s)
Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000
BGBx is headquartered in New York City, and the salary range listed reflects the expected base compensation for this role in the New York City metropolitan area. This position may be performed remotely within the United States. For candidates located outside the New York City area, compensation will be adjusted to reflect the applicable market for the employee’s primary work location. Final compensation will be determined based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
