Position Summary
This is a high-impact, strategic role responsible for shaping and delivering end-to-end category, sourcing and Australian Industry Capability strategies across multiple operational and programmatic requirements. You will work closely with suppliers, Australian Industry partners, and internal stakeholders to establish sourcing strategies, supplier networks, local capability pathways and commercial frameworks that ensure the right products and services are available at the right quality, cost, and time while strengthening Australian industry participation, ethical sourcing, innovation and supply chain resilience. embedding sustainability, ethical sourcing, innovation, and supply chain resilience.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced procurement and strategic sourcing professional with strong supplier management, negotiation and industry engagement capabilities to help build and enhance Metrea's regional procurement capability across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region while delivering meaningful commercial outcomes and advancing global procurement standards.
In this role, you will lead the development and execution of category strategies that support a resilient, compliant, low-risk, and high-performing supply chain.
What You'll Do
This is a high-impact role where you’ll help shape how Metrea sources, partners and builds capability across Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
You’ll lead strategic sourcing, category management and Australian Industry Capability (AIC) initiatives across a diverse mix of operational and program requirements. Working across Metrea and with suppliers and Australian industry partners, you’ll turn business needs into smart sourcing strategies, strong supplier networks and commercial outcomes that support our missions.
Develop and deliver category and sourcing strategies across key spend areas
Build strong, trusted relationships with suppliers and Australian industry partners
Identify opportunities to grow Australian Industry Capability and strengthen local supply chains
Lead supplier selection, commercial negotiations and contracting activities
Partner with teams across Operations, Programs, Engineering, Finance and Commercial to understand what they need and find the best way to deliver it
Drive value beyond price — balancing capability, quality, risk, speed and whole-of-life cost
Build resilient supplier networks that can respond to changing operational requirements
Embed responsible and ethical sourcing into procurement decisions
Identify opportunities for innovation, supplier development and smarter ways of working
Use supplier and market insights to challenge assumptions and influence better commercial decisions
What You Bring
You’re an experienced procurement, category or strategic sourcing professional who knows how to get things done in complex environments.
You’re commercially sharp, comfortable negotiating with suppliers and just as capable building a sourcing strategy as you are rolling up your sleeves to solve an immediate operational challenge.
Experience across strategic sourcing, category management, procurement or supply chain
Strong commercial and negotiation capability
Experience managing suppliers and building strategic partnerships
An understanding of Australian Industry Capability, Defence industry or complex regulated environments would be highly regarded
Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to influence across different functions and levels
The ability to work through ambiguity, move quickly and balance competing priorities
A practical mindset; you’re interested in outcomes, not procurement for procurement’s sake
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Highly skilled negotiator with demonstrated experience developing negotiation strategies and leading complex commercial negotiations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesise large volumes of data and translate insights into actionable recommendations
Ability to interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications, and maintenance documentation
Professional procurement or supply chain certification preferred, including:
CIPS
CPSM
CPIM
CSCP
MCIPS
Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Procurement and Contracting
Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining strong stakeholder engagement and delivery focus
