About the team

The OpsTech Team is a critical part of CookUnity’s ChefOS Zone, dedicated to building and optimizing software solutions for Fulfillment, Logistics, and Labor Tracking. This team ensures that orders are efficiently packed, tracked, and delivered with precision, leveraging technology to streamline every step of the process. Our systems directly impact the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of meal delivery, ensuring that customers receive their meals fresh and on time.

The role

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer on the OpsTech Team, you'll report to the Engineering Manager and work closely with the Product Manager to build the systems that run CookUnity's Fulfillment, Logistics, and Labor Tracking operations, software that directly shapes how fast and accurately millions of meals reach our customers.

You'll be a hands-on senior engineer: owning features end to end, tackling the hardest technical problems on the team, and helping evolve our architecture. Beyond writing code, you'll bring a strong technical voice to the team's OKRs and roadmap and help raise the bar on engineering quality.

This is an opportunity to drive meaningful, tangible impact, on the team, the product, and the daily operations that keep CookUnity running.

How we build

AI is a first-class part of how we engineer at CookUnity. Our teams build with AI-assisted coding and agentic tools woven into the everyday workflow, from design and implementation to code review and testing, so engineers spend less time on boilerplate and more on solving hard problems and shipping impact. We actively explore and adopt new AI capabilities, and we're looking for engineers who are excited to push how far this can go and help shape our engineering practices around it.

Our stack

Languages: TypeScript, Kotlin

Backend: Node.js with Fastify and Express; plus a Kotlin/JVM service

Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript — internal operational/admin tools

Data & messaging: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis. Event-driven architecture, actively migrating to Temporal for durable workflow orchestration

Infrastructure & observability: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, DataDog

Testing: Jest, Playwright

Ways of working: Agile, Service-Oriented Architecture, AI-assisted development, 24/7 on-call rotation

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services that power our Fulfillment, Logistics, and Labor Tracking operations.

Own features end to end, from analysis and technical design through implementation, testing, and rollout to production — upholding engineering best practices at every stage.

Contribute across the stack, from backend services and data models to the internal operational tools our teams rely on daily.

Shape our software architecture and raise the maturity of our technical stack, championing best practices and new technologies.

Participate in code reviews and mentor other engineers on the team.

Partner closely with your Product Manager, designer, and Operations/Logistics stakeholders to continually refine the product in an agile process.

Support the on-call rotation and help improve uptime to keep operations running 24/7.

Minimum requirements

5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong hands-on work in TypeScript/Node.js and React.

Proven experience designing and building full-stack applications end to end: backend services, APIs, and web apps running in the cloud.

Strong knowledge of service-oriented architectures and designing/building backend REST APIs.

Strong knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL): data modeling and query optimization (indexing, execution plan analysis, performance tuning).

Experience building and maintaining asynchronous systems.

Experience writing and maintaining unit and e2e tests, and shipping through CI/CD pipelines.

Experience running production services with an eye on reliability and observability.

Advanced level of English.

Preferred requirements

Experience with Kotlin or other JVM languages.

Experience with React Native.

Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes.

You enjoy working in small teams in a fast-paced startup environment.
