The role in a nutshell:

- Your core mission (The “Why)

You will form part of the AML, CTF, CPF & Sanctions Team based in South Africa,

Malaysia and Indonesia, and you will report to the Team Lead - AML, CTF, CPF &

Sanctions in South Africa.

Our AML, CTF, CPF & Sanctions team is responsible for the implementation of money

laundering, terrorist financing, proliferation financing and sanctions risk mitigation

controls for Luno's global business.

Our mission is to create a world-class AML, CTF, CPF & Sanctions Team that keeps

both Luno and our customers safe.

You will work in a fast paced environment, collaborating with other business units,

including Engineering, Product, Countries and Legal teams, servicing the business on

an international level together with the teams from Africa, Asia Pacific and the UK.

We make sure we have the processes and information available that enable us to

understand our risk, and using this foundation, we respond to any money laundering,

terrorist financing, proliferation financing and sanctions related risks in a swift

coordinated way.

Your mission will be:

- Core pillars of ownership and impact (The “What”)

Conduct reviews of screening alerts generated through LSEG Refinitiv

WorldcheckOne (Sanctions, PEPs, adverse media), and relating to customers,

employees and vendors.

Creates detailed investigation reports which can be shared internally & externally and

conducts QA on outputs of other team members.

Ability to trace complex financial crime syndicates on the blockchain and digest the

findings within an investigative report.

Effectively uses ComplyAdvantage and Chainalysis KYT to review transaction

monitoring alerts and navigate and use Chainalysis KYT & Reactor to conduct in depth

transactional investigations into customer profiles.

Conduct ad hoc and high level account reviews resulting in limit or risk upgrades.

Managing, with oversight and subject to review, interactions with, requests from and

information sharing in relation to first line functional areas, with external and internal

stakeholders, regulators, bank and payment partners.

Supports work for audits and regulatory engagements, ensuring accuracy,

completeness, and timely delivery of required information.

- Qualifications:

Tertiary Education, to the equivalent of a graduate will be advantageous

- Skills & Experience

A minimum of 3 years work experience in an AML, CTF, CPF & Sanctions related field.

Identify need for and support functional leads with the creation,implementation, recording and managing role based training.

Drive and lead work on the delivery of the team's goals.

Displays the ability to receive directive, manage own work andreport on results on agreed upon deliverables or dates, with minimal

oversight.

Gather relevant data from external sources like blockchain explorers, trading platforms, OSINT, and other sources to support

investigations.

Able to use internal investigation/analytical tools most relevant to the functional area, to an advanced level to conduct in depth

investigations or analysis.

Experience working with any of the following tools will be highly advantageous: Chainalysis KYT/Reactor, ComplyAdvantage, WorldCheck One, GeoComply, Notabene, Databricks, ThoughtSpot.

Writes in a clear, concise, organised and unbiased manner on issues relating to the functional area, incl complex cross functional investigations, with limited supervision required before presenting

for sign-off e.g. conveys rationale, analysis conducted, risks

identified and proposed course of action.

Finalise and file reports in respect of regulatory reporting and requests in conjunction with the MLRO without review.

Writes reports that can be submitted to senior stakeholders with very limited adjustments

- Regulatory,Policy & Process Framework

Understanding of legislation and regulations relating to crypto as

well as the process framework, and is able to identify breaches in

regulation.

Stay abreast of emerging financial crime patterns and reputational

risks and informs the relevant teams.

Lead the drafting of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

based on approved Policies and Minimum Standards and identify

areas of improvement in existing SOPs.

Assists in development, implementation and revision of current

policies and procedures to ensure compliance.

Able to identify accurately whether Luno is compliant with laws and

regulations.

Demonstrates the ability to perform an initial review and analysis of

newly drafted or amended legislation.

- Investigate,Analyse and Execute

Review alerts, customer accounts and transactions for red flags

indicating potential money laundering activity and take quick,

decisive action.

Drive and manage in depth transactional investigations into

customer profiles, picking up and analysing complex money

laundering techniques in both fiat and crypto transactional

environment.

Provides input on creation of rules, alerts and thresholds and

improvements thereto.

Taking the lead in assessing effectiveness of specific aspects within

the functional area.

Preparing and proposing effective plans to address outcomes of

assessments of specific aspects within the functional area to senior

stakeholders.

Managing the implementation of proposed plans to address

outcomes of assessments of specific aspects within the functional

area.

- Functional Knowledge

Drives the planning, design, and implementation phases of team

projects in a strategic manner with support from the functional

leads.

Building knowledge to become the go-to person for information on

controls and mitigating matters within the functional area.

Understand extent and impact of third party partner requirements

and how they apply to Luno.

Proficiency in analysing transactions, identifying suspicious

patterns, and distinguishing between legitimate and suspicious

activities
