Safety Coordinator, NY
Safety Worxs is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Safety Coordinator to support major infrastructure and transportation projects throughout the New York metropolitan area. This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional who thrives in the field and is passionate about promoting a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting heavy civil construction projects such as highways, bridges, utilities, excavation, transit, rail, marine, or other large-scale infrastructure work.
Responsibilities
Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and audits.
Monitor field operations to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, client requirements, and company safety policies.
Perform hazard assessments and implement corrective actions.
Lead daily pre-task planning meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
Monitor high-risk activities including:
Excavation and trenching
Crane and rigging operations
Heavy equipment operations
Traffic control
Fall protection
Confined space entry
Lockout/Tagout
Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and work permits.
Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection reports, and training records.
Partner with project management, subcontractors, and field personnel to promote proactive safety performance.
Assist with ongoing safety training.
Serve as a visible field resource and advocate for safe work practices.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience supporting heavy civil, highway, bridge, utility, transportation, or infrastructure projects.
62-Hour Supervisor Site Safety Training (SST)
Local to NY, NY or surrounding areas
Strong working knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).
Experience conducting field inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
Ability to recognize hazards and implement practical corrective actions.
Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence crews in the field.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital safety reporting systems.
Ability to work extended hours, overtime, and varying shifts as project demands require.
Preferred Qualifications
CHST, STS-C, OHST, ASP, CSP, or other BCSP certification.
OSHA 30 Construction (required); OSHA 500 is a plus.
First Aid/CPR certification.
Experience on DOT, MTA, Port Authority, tunnel, bridge, rail, or other public infrastructure projects.
