Senior Software Engineer (Core Applications)

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Core Applications team, responsible for building and owning the foundational platform that powers many of our flagship product experiences and core business capabilities. This team develops the underlying services, data models, and platform components that enable multiple feature teams to innovate and scale efficiently.

This is a high-impact engineering role requiring deep expertise in backend systems, distributed architectures, and large-scale data processing. You will work on designing resilient, scalable, and performant systems that serve as the backbone for critical product workflows. Experience with data pipelines, aggregations, and large-scale data processing is highly desirable, as many platform capabilities depend on transforming and serving data at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain core platform services that support multiple product and feature teams.

Develop highly scalable, reliable, and fault-tolerant backend systems capable of handling large-scale workloads.

Architect and implement distributed services, APIs, and foundational frameworks that enable rapid feature development across the organisation.

Build and optimise systems for high-throughput data ingestion, aggregation, processing, and retrieval.

Drive improvements in platform performance, reliability, observability, and operational excellence.

Collaborate closely with Product, Data, and Engineering teams to define and deliver scalable platform capabilities.

Contribute to technical architecture, engineering standards, and long-term platform strategy.

Mentor engineers and actively participate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions.

Investigate and resolve complex production issues while continuously improving system resilience and maintainability.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale backend applications and distributed systems.

Strong expertise in designing and operating scalable, highly available backend services.

Experience working with large datasets and building systems that process millions of records efficiently.

Proficiency in at least one backend programming language, with Python/Java preferred.

Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and performance optimisation.

Experience designing complex business workflows and platform services that support multiple downstream consumers.

Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Good to Have

• Experience building and maintaining large-scale data pipelines and data processing systems.

• Familiarity with data aggregation, transformation, and analytics workloads.

• Experience with event-driven architectures, streaming platforms, or workflow orchestration systems.

• Experience building shared platform capabilities, frameworks, or foundational services used by multiple engineering teams.
