Senior Mechanical Engineer
Ursa Major is seeking a talented and driven Mechanical Engineer to support the manufacturing and assembly of subsystems, used in solid rocket motor manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will excel at delivering robust complex mechanical solutions to improve quality, efficiency, and safety across production. This role demands a strong ability to understand and generate Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), employ finite element analysis (FEA), and maintain ownership through the entire lifecycle of projects from initial requirements to operational activation.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Develop Support Systems related to the manufacturing of Solid Rocket Motors
Upgrade and Improve Existing Equipment
Lifecycle Project Ownership by leading project from initial requirement gathering through commissioning
Integration with Tooling and Lifting Devices
Component Selection and System Integration
Structural Analysis using FEA
Documentation & Work Instructions using SOPs and assembly processes
Cross-functional Collaboration various technical skillsets
Ensure Safety & Compliance standards are upheld
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
5+ years of engineering experience, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or manufacturing environments.
Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical system design and hands-on fabrication or assembly.
Experience with P&ID creation and interpretation.
Strong capability in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar.
Proficiency with CAD software (Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or equivalent).
Familiar with design, specification, and integration of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical subsystems.
Proven ability to generate clear technical documentation, work instructions, and SOPs.
Self-starter with excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Experience managing projects through complete product lifecycles is highly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with rocket propulsion or energetics manufacturing.
Knowledge of controls, automation, and instrumentation.
Familiarity with quality systems such as AS9100 or ISO 9001.
Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $110,000 - $136,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
