Become an Urgent Care Veterinary Assistant – Wheaton, IL
Position Summary
As a Veterinary Assistant at Scout, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our clinical team and ensuring a smooth, efficient experience for pets and their people. You’ll assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care, maintain a clean and organized environment, and help deliver exceptional service during urgent visits.
Key Responsibilities
Support veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures
Safely restrain animals and assist with diagnostics and sample collection
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of exam rooms, equipment, and common areas
Prepare medications and supplies as directed
Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners
Assist with patient intake, discharge, and follow-up care
Uphold Scout’s standards for safety, empathy, and teamwork
Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent
2+ years of experience in a veterinary or animal care setting
Strong animal handling skills and comfort with urgent/emergent cases
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred:
Veterinary Assistant Certification or coursework
Experience in urgent care or emergency veterinary settings
Familiarity with veterinary software and digital records
