Electrical Designer – Switchgear Designer
Position Summary
Industrial Electric Mfg. (IEM) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Designer to join our Switchgear Design team. Working under the direction of a Lead or Design Engineer, the Electrical Designer will support the development of electrical design packages for low and medium voltage switchgear, assist with CAD-related activities, and help maintain accurate engineering documentation and part records. This is a hands-on role within a fast-paced, production-driven environment where attention to detail and collaboration are essential to delivering high-quality results.
Key Responsibilities
Work with engineering team to develop complete electrical design packages for low and medium voltage switchgear in accordance with customer specifications and applicable codes and standards under the direction of a Lead or Design Engineer.
Assist Electrical Design Engineers with day-to-day design tasks, including drawing updates, BOMs, and engineering transmittals.
Support CAD-related activities such as updating drawings, redlines, schematic revisions and support on the shop floor under the direction of a Lead or Design Engineer.
Assist with the organization and maintenance of engineering documentation and reference materials.
Create and maintain accurate part descriptions in the engineering and ERP systems (Infor/WorkNet), ensuring consistency and adherence to IEM naming standards.
Review and update existing part records to correct inaccuracies, eliminate duplicates, and align descriptions with current design standards.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager or Lead Engineer.
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree or Technology Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
Experience reading and producing electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams for switchgear or similar power distribution equipment.
Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical design.
Working knowledge of UL standards applicable to switchgear, NEC, CEC and power distribution equipment.
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to design accuracy, documentation quality, and adherence to established engineering processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Prior experience in a custom switchgear, MCC, or power distribution manufacturing environment is desired.
Workplace Conditions
On-site at an IEM manufacturing facility; office and production floor environment.
Regular shop floor interaction with production, wiring, and assembly teams.
Standard business hours with occasional overtime during peak production periods.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $61,440-$80,640 per year, based on location, experience, and qualifications.
